Breeder Profile - David Henderson
David has been involved in the Hereford breed for many years
1) South Auckland Hereford Club
David was on the South Auckland Hereford club committee for over twelve years. During this time he was involved in organising many activities, including the 2009 Herd tour to the area. Since 2011 he has been the club chairperson.
2) Council Member for the New Zealand Hereford Association
David was a council member for six years. He was a member of the technical, youth and dairy semen group.
Technical – this group was mainly involved in dealing with breeder’s queries regarding EBVs and new ideas that were coming out from Armidale. Being on this group gave David a better understanding of EBVs so that he can help other breeders and buyers.
Dairy Semen Sales – David was involved in the negotiations to get semen sold in LIC and Ambreed.
Youth – David was in charge of the youth committee for 4 years. David enjoyed this committee immensely.
Approximately fifteen years ago David went on the Hereford tour to New South Wales in Australia as a youth ambassador and enjoyed it so much that he was keen to give back to the Hereford Association.
David has organised annual tours for the youth group in New Zealand and one in South Australia. All tours last for about four to five days and usually have about ten to twelve participants. The object is to educate, motivate and encourage youth to be involved in the meat industry, whilst having fun too!
3) Overseas Youth
Over the past ten years Craigmore has hosted various overseas youth visitors. They have come from Brazil, Norway, Uruguay, Argentina, and Australia. We have also had two youth working for us from the Agriventure programme. These came from England and France and both stayed for 9 months.
4) Judging
David has judged at various shows around the country
5) World Hereford Conferences
David has attended the World Hereford conference held in Uriguay in 2016 and the New Zealand conference in 2020.
